TUMSAT held Marine AI Consortium general meeting on March 18th, 2022. It was held online to prevent the spread of COVID-19.

At the beginning of the general meeting, Chairman ISEKI Toshio, President of Tokyo University of Marine Science and Technology, indicated his appreciation for the great deal of support received by the program including the three Marine AI Consortium management council meetings held this academic year, the implementation of educational programs such as Internships or Marine AI Workshop, and the dispatching of lecturers and provision of information at marine AI study sessions, as well as for cooperation with the provision of cutting-edge information on each field at the first Marine AI Open seminar held at the end of November. In the meeting, participants from each institution including newly joined institutions introduced themselves and expressed their enthusiasm. Then, deliberations on amendments to the rules and the status of program activities in the current academic year were reported.

The reports included explanations of the progress of program measures, the Marine AI Consortium schedule in the next academic year, and program efforts toward graduate school reforms. In the explanation of students' learning progress, a video of Marine AI Workshop was shared, and the specific content of activities was conveyed to each institution.

Participating institutions made the following statements, revealing their high expectations of the program.

"The ocean has no borders, and worldwide efforts are important for things like big data, so we look forward to activities involving the rest of the world such as acceptance of international students."

"The students seem to have an issue-driven attitude toward social challenges. Among companies, there is also very high demand for problem-solving-oriented students rather than traditional academics, who are seen as suffering from silo effects where they become isolated in their own specialties. If these kinds of human resources become more valued by both academia and society, students will feel a greater sense of reward as well."

"Our policy in recent years is to recruit outstanding experts as much as possible."
