Report on Completion of Internship at WISE Program Partner Institute BEMAC Corporation
(KANO,1st year, Course of Maritime Technology and Logistics)

2022/09/30

I participated in an internship at BEMAC Corporation's Tokyo Data Lab starting in late July. The assignments I worked on were engine-related data analysis and dashboard prototyping.
BEMAC Corporation is developing an anomaly detection function for electrical systems through data analysis and troubleshooting of electrical systems using big data, and is aiming to expand this technology to ship engines as well.

In this internship program I aimed to develop an application that efficiently visualizes the results of basic analysis and analysis and collected data that contributes to the detection of abnormalities in ship equipment from collected data, with the goal of improving the efficiency of basic analysis of monitoring data for the development of these engine-related abnormality detection functions.

The work was mainly conducted by telecommuting, but was carried out with the help of morning and evening meetings held at the beginning and end of the workday with the mentor and advice as needed.
In the course of working on the assignment, I was exposed to Python, the programming language used, and data analysis for the first time in many cases, which did not always meet my expectations, but with advice from the mentor, I was able to submit a final product. Through this work, I gained an understanding of one aspect of failure diagnosis that BEMAC Corporation is working on as a challenge. I was amazed at the size and variety of items of data being collected on vessels for this purpose.
In addition, I was very grateful for the guidance on the data analysis process, program implementation, and analysis methods such as correlation between data items, which I will be able to utilize in my future research. In addition to this work, we were also given the opportunity to visit BEMAC's headquarters in Imabari and the Imabari Shipbuilding Factory of Imabari Shipbuilding Co. During the tour, we learned that BEMAC is developing not only marine electrical equipment, but also electric tricycles, lithium-ion batteries, and a wide range of other products.

We were also allowed to stay in the company dormitory, which was very comfortable, and I felt that the company is putting a lot of effort into improving the environmental working environment.
I received a great deal of guidance during the internship period. Thank you very much.
