Food web structure of benthic fish communities and the role of pelagic crustaceans in the deep sea of Suruga Bay
[Details of award-winning research]
This study revealed the feeding habits of a total of 68 species from 49 families, including previously reported fish species. The survey found that most of the pelagic crustaceans responsible for nutrient supply were the decapoda species *Sakura shrimp*, *Beni-sakura shrimp*, and the krill *Euphausia similis*, suggesting that in the deep sea of Suruga Bay, many of the intermediate trophic levels connecting the lower and higher trophic levels are supported by only a small number of species.
