Report on Completion of Internship at the Japan Fisheries Research and Education Agency　(OKUBAYASHI, Course of Marine Policy and Management)

I joined in the internship, which lasted for a total of three days from Wednesday 28 June to Friday 30 June, at the Japan Fisheries Research and Education Agency's Momoshima Office.

The main task was to publicize and report on the research of the land-based cultivation of madako(Octopus sinensis) and tairagi(Atrina pectinata).  The objective is how to publicize the research of madakoin in an easy-to-understand way so that people can learn about it. In addition,what are the challenges? What was impressive was the story of a one-room apartment solution for juvenile octopus. It was created to prevent cannibalism, and although the goal was achieved, it was difficult to feed and clean each one. I also learned that they are conducting experiments while testing the assumption that cannibalism can be prevented by using one-room apartments solution and repeating verification of workability and other aspects. It is important to ask questions to the researchers in a way that is easy for general people to understand and goes to his mind. I would also like to make efforts, such as using water more carefully, to protect the rich oceans where madako and tairagi live.

Finally, this internship was very beneficial for me. Thanks to your guidance, I was able to complete the tasks that you entrusted to me. I would like to make use of the insights I gained through this experience in the future.

Although it was only for three days, but I feel that it was a very meaningful experience. Once again, I would like to thank everyone at the Japan Fisheries Research and Education Agency.
