2025.09.19
From July 28(Mon) to August 1(Fri), 2025, and from August 25(Mon) to August 31(Mon) 2025, the OQEANOUS Plus Program STP (Short-Term Program) 2025 was held.
This program is a hybrid summer program combining online lectures and field trips in the host country. It is a part of the "OQEANOUS Plus Program." This year was hosted by TUMSAT, co-hosted by Kasetsart University and Chulalongkorn University in Thailand. A total of 35 students participated from all seven universities in the Japan-China-Korea and ASEAN consortium. (5 students from TUMSAT, 4 from Shanghai Ocean University (China), 5 from Korea Maritime and Ocean University (Korea), 5 from Kasetsart University (Thailand), 5 from Chulalongkorn University (Thailand), 6 from the University of Malaya (Malaysia), and 5 from IPB University (Indonesia)).
Based on the program theme, "Pioneering the future of marine science for our planet," participants first received five days of online lectures and on-demand lectures in English. Faculty from the seven consortium universities taught diverse marine-related special topics (fish infectious diseases, aquaculture, marine chemical environmental science, underwater acoustics, fisheries management, fishing village revitalization, marine regression by earthquakes, bioinformatics, food microbiology, and marine pollution). Subsequently, students from each university traveled to Thailand. They toured stations and laboratories at Kasetsart University and Chulalongkorn University, visited a large-scale wastewater treatment facilities and large-scale aquaculture facilities in the suburb, and experienced Thai culture.
On the last day, a presentation session was held. With faculty and staff from each university observing by on-site and online, groups composed of students from the seven universities delivered presentations in English about their experiences and learning during the program. The presentations were lively and varied, reflecting each group's unique perspectives, interests, and academic concerns. Executive Director Maita of TUMSAT then presented certificates of completion to all participants.
Through this program, it is hoped that participating students will continue cross-border and cross-cultural exchanges in the future. Furthermore, it is expected that this experience will serve as an opportunity for them to consider participating in longer-term dispatch programs such as the OQEANOUS Plus program IJP (International Joint Program) and DDP (Double Degree Program).
