Course of Applied Marine Environmental Studies

Marine Ecosystem Studies

Marine Ecosystem Studies

The purpose of this course is to conduct advanced and specialized research of creatures and substances constituting the hydrosphere environment to facilitate conservation of the marine environment and effective usage of resources.
We foster specialists through:

1 Natural, life scientific and ecological studies of individuals or groups of sea creatures
2 Studies of material cycles in oceans and their ecosystems
3 Geochemical, eco chemical and applied biochemical studies of natural and artificial chemical substances in the hydrosphere environment

Ocean Science and Technology

e precisely understand phenomena occurring in oceans with various time and space scales through observations, experiments and theories, investigate mechanisms of occurrence of phenomena and interactions between different phenomena, and conduct research and education to build a model enabling prediction of changes in the marine environment.

Also, to utilize oceans and their resources rationally and sustainably while conserving the environment, we conduct research and education on measurement and information systems making full use of advanced theories and engineering technologies, development and advancement of production systems, risk management of the environment, system evaluation, etc.

Maritime Safety Technology

Maritime Safety Technology

For sea transport supporting not only our daily lives but also the fundamental global economy and more and more promising ocean development, it is essential to correspond to the global environmental impact brought about by them, not to mention ensuring the safety of the ships and the related facilities. We review such security and environmental conservation from multiple points of view including macro and micro aspects, and research and educate to facilitate ship performance, navigation systems and environmental stress reduction, working with the National Institute of Maritime, Port and Aviation Technology.

Industrial Policy and Culture

Industrial Policy and Culture

Aiming to propose better policies to utilize oceans, we conduct research and education for sustainable use of marine resources and new utilization to elucidate a coexistence relationship between the sea and humans. Therefore, we tackle problems of production, use and processing of marine resources, especially committed to maintain resources after the EEZ system was applied and elucidate in terms of social science for their usage.

Also, we conduct research regarding usage of the sea surface and coast areas for leisure and health, the relationship between marine utilization and human development, and literature with topics about environmental problems. In this way, we will handle various cultural problems related to marine utilization and conservation of the marine environment.
