Contents of research
In this course, advanced scientific technologies to utilize the sea and its resources sustainably are researched. Specifically, we conduct research regarding conservation and sustainable usage of coastal areas, sound measurement technologies of resource volumes, habits and surrounding environments of sea creatures, invention of environmentally friendly marine machine systems, solutions to various problems related to maritime labor and ship safety, technologies related to effective exploration, utilization and development of mineral and energy resources, and improvement of environment, safety and economic performances of the facilities using marine resources and energy.
The students will learn the basics about knowledge and theories to utilize marine resources permanently while conserving the environment. Also, through experiments and measurements in laboratories and fields, they will conduct research while interacting with the marine environment.
As long as humans exist on the earth and use oceans, it is necessary to get along with oceans. In this field, you can conduct attractive research, seriously considering the co-existence of oceans and humans.
Physics and Environmental Modeling
Contents of research
In real oceans, there are many phenomena on various scales interacting with each other. The systems that deal with the dynamics of the marine environment and material transport and consist of a combination of various elements from simple systems to complex systems. Accurate forecast models will be established by clarifying and modeling each of those elements. In this field, considering the sustainable lives of humans and effective use of oceans, we will engage in observation and discovery, elucidation of mechanisms, and invention and establishment of models from the viewpoints of mathematics, physics and metrology.
The students will learn methods to elucidate mechanisms and model while enhancing the capabilities to identify truth through field research and analysis of various data sets, in addition to improvement of academic ability that becomes the base of research capabilities.
Recently, there have been many natural disasters and environmental problems beyond expectation. By elucidating the mechanisms of such phenomena and changes, and predicting them accurately, it is possible to take countermeasures required for sustainable human activity.
