The faculty exchange of OQEANOUS Plus was held

From November 25th to 26th, 2024, 15 faculty members from the consortium universities of the OQEANOUS Plus Program (Shanghai Ocean University, Korea Maritime and Ocean University, Chulalongkorn University, Kasetsart University, University of Malaya, and the IPB University) visited TUMSAT for the faculty exchange event. From TUMSAT, Masashi Maita, Director and Vice President of Education and International Affairs, Ikuo Hirono, Vice Dean of the Graduate School, Daisuke Watanabe, Professor (Course of Maritime Technology and Logistics), Haiyun Wu, Associate Professor (Course of Marine Resources and Environment), Shohei Komeda, Associate Professor (Course of Marine System Engineering), Llave Perez Yvan Antonio, Associate Professor(Course of Food Science and Technology), Yusuke Horinouchi, Assistant Professor (Course of Marine Life Sciences), and Ryusuke Miyamoto, Assistant Professor (Course of Marine Life Sciences) attended.
The faculty exchange event was held in two parts, with a poster session in English. The 20 presentations from TUMSAT and other universities were followed by lively questions not only from the presenters, but also from the audience, including TUMSAT faculty members and students who is considering to study abroad, making for a fruitful exchange of research.
In the afternoon, the participants visited the laboratories of Assistant Professor Horinouchi and Assistant Professor Miyamoto, Associate Professor Wu, and Associate Professor Llave, who had participated in the morning's exchange event, at the Shinagawa Campus, and there was a lively Q&A session.
In the evening, a networking reception was held, and further exchanges of opinions took place.
On the following day, November 26th, the visiting professors visited the wholesale and intermediate wholesale sections of the Toyosu Market, which boasts the world's largest volume of marine products trade. As it is rare to have the opportunity to visit and receive explanations about the intermediate wholesale section in particular, the participants listened with great interest to the explanations and asked many questions.
Next, the group visited the Etchujima Campus and visited the laboratories of Associate Professor Mitsuhiro Masuda (Course of Maritime Technology and Logistics), Professor Junichiro Tahara, and Associate Professor Shohei Komeda (both Course of Marine System Engineering), where they listened with interest to the explanations they received. Finally, they visited the Marine AI Development and Evaluation Center(MAIDEC) and received an explanation of the marine AI Consortium from Associate Professor Toru Kino.
Through this exchange event, we hope to see increased interaction between the faculty of the consortium universities, and an increase in the number of international exchange students between the consortium universities.
